Cracking in asphalt is not a big deal. It's semi-solid and when you drive on it you pack it down and the cracks will close.

In fact, if you don't drive on asphalt it will crack on its own. You see that on the shoulders of roads and places like bike paths that don't get vehicle traffic. It's not recommended for driveways that don't get a lot of use.

How long ago was this? If so, you need to tell them asap so that the tree company can fix the damage.

They probably have all sorts of disclaimers.

A crane can absolutely crack your driveway. We had construction done and there were some cracks in our driveway from cranes and concrete trucks, etc. If they are careful, they can put down plywood under the tracks, and that will help spread the weight, but it's not a 100% fix.

You should not have agreed to that. I can't beleive you did, actually. Everyone knows the weight of the cranes destroys concrete and asphalt driveways.

No, our driveway was in good condition before the crane. They also had to dig up our plants surrounding the driveway. I was able to get them back in the ground without killing them but they were definitely smooshed.

Simply decline and let them know that the last time the crane left cracks on the driveway. Ypu didn’t want to say anything, but you don’t want to risk getting more cracks. The crane will be just fine on their lawn.

Of course it's normal for a multi ton crane to put cracks in your driveway. Next time, say no. They can put it in their lawn. See how that goes.

At least they asked. My neighbor’s had a tree removed and we woke up one morning to a tree company putting a crane on our front lawn!

If you go this route, you take the before pics with the neighbor there. A slow video is even better.

I declined when asked but my driveway was 1 year old so I knew there’d be more settling.

Even so, unless the tree was a hazard/sick and threatening my house, I wouldn’t allow it. They can use a climber rather than a bucket truck.
