Hockey for 14 and 15 year olds. Each coat $3700 a season which runs from August to march. The add in Wawa sandwiches, Wawa gas, hotels, and nj turnpike tolls.

Sailing - Horrifying and I will never add it up. Not even close to the highest level and doing it in a lower cost area and still insane (but grandparents help on this one).

Now I’m curious how horrifying sailing is, with an equestrian in the house…

PP - I always say "at least he doesn't ride horses," because we don't have to keep something alive. But he does have his own little boat which are about $5500 new, then that boat needs all sort of equipment, anywhere from a race sail that is used 2-3 times and costs $500 to a new mast which is $700 - $800 and it could get a giant hole in it at anytime which could be thousands to fix. Then special gear going from $100 life jackets to $500 drysuits, etc. Regatta fees range from about $150 - $400 depending on what it is. Coaching at regattas can be anywhere from $100 - $600/day again depending on where and what. Travel is literally all over the world - for example a number of kids he sails with are in St. Thomas right now for the week. A huge group goes to Italy every spring for about 10 days. You then can't bring your boat and have to charter one for up to $800/event. Season team fees for practice could be between $2000 - $6000 depending on which season (ie you are paying this multiple times a year) and where. I could go on and on and on. DS does everything on the low end of this, I am a pro with miles and points for travel, I use ebay for a lot of the gear and despite being told "you HAVE to go to Lake Garda," we in fact have not gone to Lake Garda and have survived. He uses race sails 4x the suggested amount, because I just can't justify brand new every time, etc. On the other hand you can also sail locally in a community program and have almost none of these costs - you use a club boat, you have a high school kids coaching you, hand me down gear, no travel, so it's certainly a choice! He is loving it, but we are also realistic with him that we won't do training to lead to a world championship berth (or another very high level event) because we can't pay $15,000 for him to go sail somewhere for a week - which is around the payment needed if you make the world's team.

Ha! I prefer not to add it up, but I am going to guess at least $10k for my 13 year old softball player. That's team fees, travel expenses, private training, uniforms, gear, etc. My 10 year old plays three rec sports. May spend $2000 per year tops with fees and equipment.

Boy 13

Travel baseball: around 4K/yr for team fees not including travel expenses (hotel, meals etc), batting lessons about 1K/yr, strength & conditioning classes about 1K/yr

Rec basketball: maybe $300/yr for the fees in total (he plays around 6 months out of the year). Sometimes there are small additional fees (our share of gym rental fees etc that are not included in the rec fee) but that is very minor

15 yo son, soccer

School: probably $450 on uniforms and gear plus another $800 to booster club events/membership. We don't plan to host a team dinner but if we did it would be about $500 in food I am guessing.

Club: $3500 fee, add a another $500 for uniforms, another $500 if we have to stay in 2-3 hotels

Shoes and balls and other gear are probably $300-$400 a year.

11 year old boy. Probably about $1500 on soccer but that includes summer soccer camps. He didn't want to do travel so rec is only about $500 a year.
Then another $700 on flag football that he does fall, winter and spring.

He's doing a summer track program that was about $200

14 year old boy, travel baseball- $450 team fees per spring and fall season; winter workouts cost vary depending on what we actually do, but estimate an average of $300; probably $150 per season for tournament fees. Total for one full year: $900-1000.

Also plays rec basketball- $125 for the winter season.

14 year old girl - 6-7k per year on volleyball. This was the past year of July- June. Next year will completely depend on which type of team she makes.

17 yo, $0 since dropping all sports in HS last year. In the past it was $500-$3000 yearly for a combo of different sports in rec and regional club without hotels.

I have 10 and 14 year olds. They play baseball and flag football. Baseball for the younger one is probably $4k per year not including training. Probably $10k a year for the older one, including training. If they break a bat, add $350.

Football is probably $200 each a year.

Add another $500 a year for cleats.

tennis small group lessons 1x weekly: $1200
