Those players are choosing to shun and deride her so she “doesn’t fit in.” They are mad that it’s *she* who brought attention to the sport and not one of them.

Considering most people have no idea who any of them are, it could be anyone. It doesn’t matter now because nobody’s going to watch to find out.

Compared to the rest of the world (who, after all, is the competition in this case)is still one of the best. I’m glad she’ll be getting some rest as a PP pointed out but the sport sure as hell won’t advance in popularity or fandom without her.

If she were black she’d have made the team.

Billie Jean King has said in interviews lately how important it was that the older tennis players in the early ‘70s acknowledge that Chris Evert was the reason people suddenly were paying attention to all of women’s tennis. It’s the same case here with Caitlin Clark.

This. Plus, the other players’ obvious and outward displays of envy regarding her popularity make me just root for her more. Like it or not, nobody’s going to give two shirts about Olympic women’s basketball without her.

The other players don't want or need her. They are good enough for gold medal and they don't want to share credit and publicity with her.

There's little interest from viewers and media coverage without her.
