You can just get on Walney right off 66. There is very little traffic through Ellanor Lawrence, so while it might be the roundabout way to get to where you're going, it's often a better ride with no congestion (unless a tree falls across the road somewhere along the park). We do this every weekday (66East -> Walney).

It's a nightmare, OP, coming and going. I don't know who designed it.
Half the problem is runaway development all over Northern Virginia (and into rural communities) causes gridlock on roads not meant to carry so much traffic. You can thank your BOS, because most of them are pro-development.

That's exactly the problem I'm running into, I have to get off at walney and I'm wondering if it's easier just to get off on Westfield boulevard and take it from there?

The disappearing lanes is a real problem there. I get on 28 right at 66 and get off at Walney and I was flummoxed the first few times....poor planning.

We're going the opposite way to be fair so it's not quite gridlock, but it seems like it is a cluster the way they redid it. You have to get over all the way and then immediately get back over to the right

I agree with you that it is poorly designed. No one drives aggressively on it during rush hour, because they're all going somewhere between 0-5 MPH.

I am told 28N was recently redone. I have never driven on it previously. It is a mess, as the lane you drive on off 66 merges and then you are immediately in an exit only lane for Westfield. You essentially have to merge over immediately two lanes and then try and get back in time. Am I overthinking this? Do people drive aggressively on it during rush hour?
