Op here - this is helpful, thanks. Didn’t even know about St Andrew’s!

Re: feeder system, correct me if I’m wrong, but it sounds like a lot of these schools are easier to get into in the lower grades. So if going to a certain one (or one of a small group) is important to us, then we might think about applying sooner rather than later.

Wdyt?

The schools that exist are what exist. It’s not like there’s some secret unknown coed private school in Bethesda!

Re: co-ed, we are open to that for both kids! For single sex, it sounds like there are unique advantages for girls, and unique disadvantages for boys, so we are less open to single-sex education for DS.

I guess if you're just kind of going off of vibes, maybe this is true?

I’ve got MS kids and have the same question. So weird to me that there are so many single sex schools!

You should also relax a bit because the kids might have their own opinions about the type of learning environment that they want. Don’t try to plan everything out now.

What is this "extensive feeder system" that you speak of?

Loads of St. Andrew's students from Bethesda. Bus from Strosnider's or Spring Valley.

Also St. Andrew's in Potomac, and Sidwell's DC campus and Maret aren't that far either. I guess there aren't any co-ed private high schools with a Bethesda mailing address, but none of these or the ones PP mentioned are far if you live in Bethesda.

Washington Waldorf has a Bethesda address!

You can also do Norwood or WES for K-8 if you want to me a little closer to home in the early years. Or Primary Day or Concord Hill which end earlier.

Why is co Ed fine for one but not the other?

You have toddlers.

Relax. At least for 5 years. Please.

We are in Bethesda with two toddlers, a boy and a girl. I know we are far off from these years, but I’m still a little confused.

Are there no co-ed private high schools in the Bethesda area? We are open to single sex school for DD but strongly prefer co-ed for DS.

Is going into DC the only option for co-ed private high school, if coming from Bethesda?

Catholic is a no for us. Episcopal or other Christian is fine.

Thanks!
