To pretend GPAs can be standardized and compared across high schools.

Just get As.

Problem solved.

Yes, because my kid has a 3.8 if colleges view A minus grades as different than As and an unweighted 4.0 if all A minus grades are viewed as an A (which they are at a few schools).

It won't change every school he/she applies to but will change a few (on the reach end!)

My kid's HS does A (92.5 and above is 4.0) and A- (3.7) but no A+. You would think most colleges would have some form of recalculation because of varying grade scales, as evidenced already in this thread.

It's probably best to check websites for colleges for this info. Or call admissions office if wording is vague, which it often is.

Screws kids with high 90s, too. There should be a distinction between a 99 and a 90.

Many high schools don’t give A+s. 94-100 is an A. 90-93 is an A-.

Most schools don’t differentiate between the + and - on a grade. Our high school doesn’t even do this.

All of them don't re-calculate. Some like Michigan do (which puts them inline with school districts that do this---e.g. MCPS which does not give plus or minus grades).
The U of C schools do this same thing (view all forms of A as an A). (UCLA, Berkeley, etc).

Anyone know of others that re-calculate?

I thought some highly selective schools don't recalculate at all? Plus, not sure it matters if you are being considered within the context of your class and school. They should have the school profile.

I know Michigan recalculates GPA like this (they view all forms of an A (A+, A, A-) as an A.
All forms of of B (B+, B, B-) as a B...etc.

Are there other schools that you know that do this?
