OP here. I just wanted to add that of course I already knew my niece was graduating and was going to give her a gift. The tacky part is that this text which included me was sent to a bunch of family and friends. I was just confused as to if this is the norm? I think a graduation get together or flyer or even some kind of e-flyer would be nice. It’s essentially a Text that just says give my kid money.

tacky and I wouldn't "donate."

If my sibling did this, I would only be offended because I'd of course know my niece is graduating and would have already been planning to give my niece a cash gift anyway so I'd be slightly annoyed that my sibling felt the need to ask me to do that when they should know I'm going to give their kid a generous gift without being asked.

CashApp is the app that poor people use for begging.

It's a different from vibe for people for whom $100 is a matter of etiquette not a serious concern.

So tacky, but wouldn’t you know she’s graduating and send a gift anyway?

Usually you have a party.

Other option send an announcement card with a graduation picture to close family. No mention of money of course. Some family may have not realized their niece or nephew graduated. We did a nice card with a collage child’s college experience with a graduation photo. Only my kids Godmother and one forgetful aunt responded to card with a check. Both just forgot. But straight up asking is a bit rude.

It’s so tacky and yet so convenient for me as the gift giver.😂

What does that have to do with anything?

The ironic thing is, if the sister had just texted something like ‘Hi everyone! Wanted to share a family update, Larla is graduating from high school and headed to ABC College! We are so proud of her and excited for her next chapter. Hope you all are doing well’ …people would’ve almost definitely send cards/cash anyways.

Is the sister BIPOC or white?

People asking for cash is almost always tacky. For graduations, to pay for your honeymoon, and 95% of gofundmes.

Be offended if you like but I would have no issues if my SISTER asked me this. She is your closest family.

Not throwing a party is not an issues. Asking for CashApp donations is the issue.

Give a present if you'd like, but it does not need to be cash.

I just received a text from my sister informing me that my niece is graduating high school and going off to college. The text asks for family and friends to cash app my niece to congratulate her. Is it just me or is this tacky as ever? Why no graduation party to celebrate. My sister is not in any financial trouble and can afford a party. of course people want to see my niece and celebrate in person.
