meh, not true. My kids primary sport is football and the 40 yard dash is critical during tryouts and having a shot starting positions. My son improved from about the 50% mark (all kids on his team are publicly ranked for the 40) to 15% in the same season. He worked with a speed coach and was doing hills with a parachute and did all agility training with a weighted vest.

also his back pedal drill speed was dramatically improved with learning proper hip movement. That speed skill is particularly useful in lacrosse for being open to clear the ball. Very few lacrosse kids can properly or efficiently run backwards. The speed coaching has been incredibly helpful. Maybe lacrosse kids don’t find they can improve speed but football and track kids do.

I think they could. They’re just not getting the right coaching. Notice that kids that play other sports have better footwork in lax.

My kid went from average to fast when he started sprinting on the track a couple of mornings before school and doing a speed or weight training workout at a sports training franchise specializing in helping youth athletes improve speed about three times per week. I think he improved so much because of better conditioning, building muscles, and working on flexibility. The franchise also improved his stride and turnover.

This is accurate. It happens. It is true some kids are naturally faster, but others haven’t fully tapped into their potential.

Someone said this on another thread. Maybe you? Anyway, why do cross-country or track teams have coaches if speed is not coachable? Or swim teams for that matter? Coaches spot little things you can tweak to get faster. Also, practice improves endurance and speed. Coaches help kids organize their practicing. I can't stand when people say speed is un-coachable. How silly!

Yes, join a local track team that's what all the football players do.
