It was the kids like mine that had to continually move around for development, continually got shafted and learned grit and to grind and had the benefit of many different coaches, rejections/failures, and come backs that succeeded. Sucks going through it but so much better for them in the long run.

Going through this now with my U13. It sucks and I personally would have quit a while ago and told everyone involved to f off. Kid is mentally stonger than I was so I keep rolling with it until they say they are done.

A shame clubs' administrations don't want to deal with that kind of parent backlash of their kid being moved down.

That’s what happened to us…

I do think its difficult for the clubs because families do leave - whether its true or not that their DC deserves to stay at that level.

I've seen it both ways by 2 different coaches.

One coach at u11 doesn't seem to move anyone down. You'd think that the kids that only come 30% of the time would get moved down, but that hasn't been the case. Or the kids that are very slow (but big) would be moved down.

Another coach adjusted rosters once moved (3 kids down and 3 kids up) at the start of U10 when a bunch of new kids came in to balance out 2 teams, but the coach was really good about communicating that to the parents. They all stayed and some of those kids will probably move back up when they expand back to U11 9v9.

This is just blatantly false and absurd. I know countless examples of this from small clubs to the big ones. To say “no club” is ludicrous.

Now, if you’re talking about during the club year (eg fall 2023-spring 2024), yes, most or maybe even all clubs won’t drop people until the following year.

My kid got moved down to the B team. Then absolutely tore up the B teams scoring pretty much at will. After a single season the new coach taking over the team begged us to play on the A team again. Same thing happend to 2-3 other players.

The coach that seemed to enjoy demoting players from her team got booted from the club for lack of performance.

I have kids at two different clubs, both of which move kids up/down.

What about returning kids being cut from a team even though lower level teams in the age group existed that they could have been shifted to? Club is holding tryouts for new adds so space was not an issue. Kids cut were well behaved, responsible, and great attendance. No reason for cuts provided. Just cut and being replaced.

Our club regularly moves kids down from the top team but more often, the family leaves. So if a club does that, they have to be willing to lose the family completely.

I love that. That's competition. If my son or daughter can't compete with a better player than that's a hard lesson in personal growth, that's how winning is done.

Not true. I’ve seen kids getting moved up at our club (girls).
