Frederick County is very, very, very large and purple. Biden won 53% to 44%

Urbana and Downtown Frederick are blue and other less populated parts are red and the rest is purple.

Mt. Airy is odd because it is both Frederick County and Carroll County.

Obviously, there is a crack pot administrator who doesn't know the 1st amendment.

Frederick County officials corrected them when made aware of the crazy letter.

This got more attention that it deserved.

It's Mt. Airy, so its not surprising this happened. But also, its my understanding that its been corrected.

Nobody is required to recite the pledge.

The school, Twin Ridge, is a feeder into the middle school by kids attend. The principal at Twin Ridge just made a mistake; that's it

Everyone has freedom of speech which is why no one is required to cite the Pledge of Allegiance.

Not a Fredrick County parent but this makes no sense. What about students who aren't US citizens?

There was a Supreme Court a few years back, in the 1950s I believe that said students don't have to stand.... So what are they doing up there?

Pledge of Allegiance debate sparks controversy in Frederick County

FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. - Should students and teachers be required to recite the Pledge of Allegiance? It’s a topic that’s recently caused some confusion and a little bit of controversy in Frederick County.

Here’s the backstory: Officials with Frederick County Public Schools said that in late April, a message was sent to staff at Twin Ridge Elementary School in Mount Airy. It said in part, "recently there have been questions about reciting the pledge of allegiance in classrooms." The message then cited a Maryland law in saying all students and teachers are required to say the pledge.

"It’s a complete nonstarter under the First Amendment," Aaron Terr said of the message Tuesday.
