The guy talking had to remind her that there are several different leagues and types of players being looked at by coaches. He even mentioned female players from outside the US that are now competing for spots on college teams. He also made it clear that just playing in a certain league didn't nessasary mean you'll get recruited by colleges. He said the top teams in different leagues will get the most attention and from there the top standout players on the top teams will get the most attention from scouts. An example provided was at some of the big showcase events there will be 500 recruiters watching a single game. At the same time 7 fields over the same age group players and teams will have very few.
The guy is a somewhat controversial figure because he runs a recruiting consultancy that charges thousands to do what many believe can and should be done by the players themselves. Coach Renee Lopez is a well known proponent of the do it yourself approach and gives out great info for free. His points about players being realistic about their level and considering all divisions not just the well known big schools is good advice.
DIY is nice but anyone involved with youth soccer to the point where their kid is looking at playing in college knows that money opens doors.
Personally I bet paying 3-4 recruitment services to hype your kid and offering a 10k-100k bonus to whichever service gets them on xyz college team would get better results than DIY. (Unfortunately)
