People are still interested in YY? I thought most were jumping ship. I don’t know if I consider YY a HRCS anymore.

No, the YY PK3 waitlist has moved very little since lottery day. IIRC, our number has decreased by maybe 7?

Ha. THIS. My son is graduating HS (Latin) this year and I'm so relieved to leave this child-raising/DC school navigating season in my rear view mirror. I just laugh when people ask, "aren't you so sad that he's leaving the nest?". NO. LOL

Consider that Yu Ying is not the only school on people's waitlists. Students are getting called off waitlists at other schools to, and families may have ranked other schools higher than Yu Ying. So once they enroll in a school higher on their waitlist, they are removed from Yu Ying's waitlist.

Agree with the above. With the additional classes taking students, more people will be getting spots, but that also means that more newbies will be declining spots.

My neighbor is a teacher there. She says good things and it doesn't sound like there are any new problems. Just new capacity.

I would think it's because you'll no longer have a guaranteed spot at DCI, only a preference. That tends to put people off.

Sometimes they set seats aside for siblings, and the actual sibling numbers come in lower

I assume it has to do with the opening of the new building. Maybe they are ahead of schedule with the construction and can open more classrooms.

It's fine. People get cold feet about having to support Chinese at home.

I realize YY had 26 K openings for this coming year, but I'm puzzled as to why the waitlist moved so fast -- why are so many people declining an offer? I'm concerned we're missing something rather than getting lucky. Anyone have insight?
