We don’t know if it’s an 89.4 or 89.9 or 89 flat. It just says 89 on SIS so unless you go adding points to assignments you can’t actually see what it takes to raise it to the next number.

On my SIS it shows one decimal place after. So it will show 89.9%

Interesting, must be some setting you can toggle. Mine is flat percentages.

Yes, this happened to my high schooler with an AP class DBQ in-class assignment. Her computer wasn’t cooperating with College Board so she was 1 of 2 kids who had to hand write it.

It was given a 0 and then marked as not turned in. My daughter said other kids asked her why she was hand writing it so clearly she was seen completing the assignment. She emailed the teacher to ask if she could meet re: the 0 and get feedback on why it was given that score (all the while freaking out).

Turns out the teacher had accidentally stapled the grading rubric on top of her paper; the email made her investigate and she found the assignment which was then properly graded.

because an A- is at least a 90

89.4 does not equal 90

even an 89.9 does not equal a 90

Go back to math class .... pay attention to the rules regarding "rounding up"......

Let's say the teacher does change a 89.40 to an A- what do you say to the student with 89.37? So where is the line?

If he really did turn it in—truly!!— and it is lost, then I would just give him one chance to re-do it. But, it seems unlikely that it would be lost if it was turned in on the same day and time as all the others.

I’ve been teaching middle school for almost 2 decades and it is extremely common for students to remember doing an assignment and think that they turned it. They almost always find it when they clean out their notebook, backpack, etc. This is one of the main reasons why we post assignments in Schoology nowadays.

Mine just had the same thing happen. Turns out kid was at a doctor's appointment, had asked teacher if they missed anything in class that was do, was told to just check anything in Schoology if needed. Turns out the teacher had handed out a paper assignment in that class that day. Rarely ever does this occur, they are usually online. It was not in Schoology or SIS as a due date or entered. Dropped kids grade by 1.5 points. Kid got assignment form teacher showed the communication by email. They turned in the assignment but I bet it still gets marked as late, I guess better than a zero. 2 days before the last day of regular classes.

Recently, DC has an assignment labeled "Not turned in" on SIS. He told me that he actually turned it in at class. But the teacher said that his assignment was not found. Because it's an assignment on paper, DC can't provide proof of submission. I asked him about the content of the assignment. He told me about the problems and how he answered the problems. My son has no previous record of being dishonest on school assignment. Have your children ever encounter such issue? How did your children and their teacher deal with it?
