If I want to get a fake deed on record, it's still 2.9% of the consideration or assessed value. So, $29K on a $1M property. That's a lot of upfront cash to try to commit some low probability fraud.

The title fraud ads you hear on sports talk radio are rubbish, trying to scare you into buying something you don't need.

Did you buy enhanced owner's title insurance?

Or is this just a manifestation of underlying anxiety? Not hating or trying to be mean.

I just can't imagine what you would be worried about.

DP, title fraud is a thing. Google it.

Not really though. You cannot take someone’s how with false filings. No matter how good or no matter what you do.

How about being less judgmental and stopping with just the first question?

Why would you need to downgrade security options to view a public record?

That is shady.

VPN is great security. But many websites including dcum block it.

I wanted to check, online, my home deed recorded with DC's Office of Tax and Revenue's Recorder of Deeds. I've done this before. The city uses a third-party contractor to maintain online access. For about a week online access has been offline, and I'm starting to get a little concerned for the integrity of my record. I'll call or go to the office but I wonder if anyone else has had this problem. Here is the webpage where the link to online access is (if I am able to post a link):
