I would not want to do this aftercare program. It wouldn’t bother me occasionally but it would bother me as part of the regular schedule.

I work at a church preschool. We do zero TV. Aftercare consists of lunch and playground time or inside playtime if the weather isn't great. As a teacher, I don't think TV is necessary in pre-k, especially in a half day program. As a mom, this would annoy me but if I was otherwise pleased with the school, I likely wouldn't raise a stink, but I would also stop signing my kid up for aftercare if that was feasible with my schedule.

Mine are at an at home place. They do 10-15 min educational cartoon in the afternoons. As reward for a quick cleanup and then they go outside at 4 until pickup (they are open at 6). Im ok with ot as its a long day. Would mot be ok with it for a 4 hr preschool day.

It's preschool, not curriculum.

Um no, I send my kids to school so they can play and save screen time for home when mama needs a break. I'd be pissed.

Our daycare has a written policy of no more than 30 minutes per week of screen time for kids over age 2. For kids under 2 there is no screen time. I assume they follow it. My DD talks about watching videos at school so they definitely do watch some. I would probably be fine with 30 minutes out of 8 hours but if I am paying for 2 hours of aftercare it does seem a little ridiculous if 40 minutes is screen time.

Nope wouldn't be okay with me. There are no TVs/screens at our daycare preschool.

Am curious what you are paying - if it's a below-market rate, this is probably a staffing issue (they have fewer staff for the "aftercare" portion).

This is op. This is a 4hr preached. “Aftercare” is 2 additional hours.

If you’re sure it’s no more than 40 minutes a day, it’s not the hill I’d die on if I otherwise liked the school. (You mention aftercare so I’m assuming this is 40 minutes out of an 8+ hr day, no 40 minutes of a 3-hour program or something.)

You could write a note to the director about it and talk to other parents who may agree with you and help put pressure on the school to stop the practice. Otherwise, you can enroll elsewhere.

My daughter attends a parochial preschool. I just learned that during camp and during “aftercare” the kids are fed snack and watch tv for what I understand is 20-40min. I am so uncomfortable with this and wondered if it is appropriate and what I can do about it. Seems like a lazy way to watch kids.
