Yes, for the most part. You get the odd few who ignore it. One time a guy rang the bell trying to sell something. I pointed to the No Soliciting sign, and he smiled and said, "Yea, I saw it". Um.. that's not going to make me want to buy from you.

It stopped all the religious people.

Do salespeople stop knocking?

Can you get money from them if they solicit despite signage?

No but I find adding some gun decals and an NRA sticker puts an end to the nonsense

I have heard they work but I wish they included a caveat like No soliciting except for Girl Scout cookies, etc. Because they will also keep out anyone you might be ok with knocking.

It works. Per Ffx Co website:

"Soliciting is the sale of goods or services door-to-door or from a temporary stand and is regulated by Fairfax County Code. Fairfax County requires peddlers and solicitors be licensed before they solicit door to door. They may solicit only between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m., and may not solicit at a residence which posts a "No Peddlers or Solicitors" sign."

They work for 95% of the solicitors. Every now and then one will either not see it, or they don’t know what the word soliciting means so they still knock.

I never answer my door unless I know the person so they can knock if they like. I assume 99% of people are the same.

I simply don’t answer my door, even if I’m at home, but still the door to door salespeople continue; roofers, window replacement, pest control, political canvassers, fake magazine sellers, Jehovah’s Witnesses, steak and meat on a truck…

Get a bigger one.

I live in an apartment and don't need one but when I get a house I will get one because a friend of mine swears by them he says NO one comes by anymore! So I hear they work well. Try it op. Friends got them from home depot.

I don't have one but one of my neighbors do.

I never get unwanted salesmen or whatever. Seems silly to me.

I had one 10 years ago, and it worked surprisingly well. Went from frequent sales people knocking to almost none.

I strongly doubt there would be a penalty for ignoring the sign.
