We stayed in Plaka, as well, at the Plaka Hotel. A bit of a walk to the Acropolis, but a nice area and the rooftop view of the Acropolis was amazing. I agree that the rooms were small, and IIRC the staircase was an experience (a bit narrow and windy) but we liked it.

We stayed at the Pinnacle Athens. Walking distance to plus views of the Acropolis. Friendly staff, bottle of wine upon arrival, and a shower with great water pressure.

We stayed at ERGON house in Athens in both March and April and loved it. It’s a small hotel built on top of a food hall, an amazing breakfast is included, the rooms are clean, modern and comfortable, and it has a beautiful roof deck. We were there for just one night before a cruise and then stayed for a couple of nights at the end. They helped us with airport Transfers, Transfers to our cruise, and great restaurant advice. After our first night, I was excited to go back at the end of our trip, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s right near the historic district, Syntagma Square, and maybe a 15 minute walk to the Acropolis.

It's been nearly 15 years since we stayed at this hotel, but it was lovely then. Close to the Acropolis, quiet, and comfortable beds.

That's too funny -- I stayed here too! I knew it was going to be the same place when you said the owner was nice and lived downstairs.

It was great, walkable to everything and lots of space. We didn't stay in any hotels in Athens though so I can't compare to that.

Closed a few years ago, theoretically for renovations and supposed to reopen as a Conrad. We’ll see.

Koniama Acropolis. I stayed here a few weeks ago. New, modern, clean hotel. Very close to the metro and in walking distance of the Acropolis. It’s a boutique.

As far as chain hotels I think there is Hyatt, Sofitel, etc.

The owner lives in an apartment downstairs. She is flexible as to arrival time and very helpful.

Need a good hotel in Athens - closer to the Acropolis is better. Traveling with two adults and three kids/teens. All of us will be jetlagged and wanting quality sleep. Thinking larger, branded hotel for the "guarantee" on the experience (not looking for the hotel to enhance the authenticity of our trip - just looking for clean, good bed situations in a comfortable environment to recoup from a very long travel day).
