Given how many people are desperate for the hours between the end of camp and parents getting home— which is only 2-3 hours— why shouldn’t they charge $30?

Just because they put it on a flier doesn’t mean that get any/many jobs. That price seems egregious to me. But maybe if they live in a very affluent neighborhood where parents have more money than common sense, then all the power to the teens.

This may depend where you live. My DD was making $20/hr for two kids back in 2017/18 when she was in high school.

Good for these teens but if I'm going to pay a sitter $30+ an hour (and I always do a 3hr min to make it worth it) I'm not hiring a teen.
My sitter is 35 with her own transportation, a clear background, non-smoker, CPR certified, 15+ years in both a preschool setting + private households and we pay $27 for 2 kids with a 3hr min (which we round to $30 anyway) 99% of the time for evenings.

I would pay a college student $25/hr with a minimum of four hours. Your sitter is college-aged and watching two kids so I’d up her rate to $25.

In less than a month minimum wage in DC will be $17.50/hr.
When I was in high school minimum wage was $4.25/hr. I was typically getting $7-10/hr to babysit back then.
It seems comparable to me.

I mean as far as capitalism goes they can charge whatever they want but you're 16 years old there's no way you have the breadth of experience or certifications to actually charge $30 an hour. Especially for a Singleton or kids that are over the age of six.
But I would be surprised if anybody's grabbing those tickets.
