Not my dc major academic advisor. But the one dc had from the student success center. Dang i would have bought the moon for that lady. She made the 4 years successful and made my dc the success they are today. I did have some part in the success but I feel this lady touched the points as a parent I could not.

Maybe if the kid is still looking for a job and the advisor has connections on The Street. Otherwise I've never heard of anyone doing this.

If your child is close with their advisor than a note and maybe a small token would go a very long way with the advisor who is likely underpaid and does the job for the love of students. I have a folder with every thank you note I ever received from a student.

I never met my advisor and definitely never gave a gift.

My kid graduated from a SLAC this year. 8-10 kids graduated from his department. He did research for his departmental advisor, took multiple classes with her, she supervised his senior research, served as a reference and helped him out of a couple jams. He took her flowers with a handwritten note (yes, at my prodding) to the departmental reception. It wasn’t necessary, but they had worked closely for three years and I don’t think it was out of line. She definitely seemed touched.

Advisor as in employed in the advising center or whatever it's called at the university. They seem to generally help with class selection and university calendar reminders. Many some motivation as well? DC asked if they should send their advisor flowers and my first thought was that seems totally unnecessary? But maybe I'm wrong.
