Not a regular occurrence, but not terribly uncommon. A young black bear was seen wandering around a few miles away from this location, a few weeks ago. There's usually a handful (<5) bear sightings a year.

The ear was sticking out. It looked like a bear ear, but who would think it’s a bear? I used to live there. It’s right across from Lyon village.

A Nextdoor user posted about the grisly discovery Friday, before authorities were called.

“I was walking with my son and dog on a trail near our home in Arlington,” in the North Highlands neighborhood west of Rosslyn, the user said. “My dog got close to a big black trash bag and I noticed a bad smell and a lot of flies. I got a little closer and I saw hair and what looks like an ear. It looks like a bear’s ear.”

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington later responded to the area, found the bag and confirmed that it contained a deceased adult black bear.

I thought the ND post was bizarre. She said it was something in a bag that smelled bag and surrounded by flies and didn't know what it was. She was asking what to do... Call the non-emergency line, lady!

Here's the location where the poor bear was found. I hope the buildings around there have cameras that are being looked at.

How terrible! I live in Central VA where there’s black bears as well. How sad! Hope they catch this despicable person!

What kind of awful human does this? HIGHLY unlikely that the person who did this was actually in any kind of life threatening situation.
