Unless you see the actual crab trap being lifted from the water, you have no way of knowing where that blue crab came from. Some sellers may claim they came from the bay but they probably don't know, either.


I get my crabs from a guy who runs his boat out when he gets orders. I know they are genuine maryland bay crabs

they are all Callinectes sapidus and they are the exact same species. Not a single different DNA sequence to be found. They are now invasive in Italy, exact same crab. Only reason they are called Maryland blue crabs is when they are caught in maryland, but it’s the exact same Callinectes sapidus found from Maine to Louisiana.


You do understand the water is a huge part of seafood right?!

It's a restaurant, but the Sea Boil down Rt 1 does a brisk steamed crab takeout business. $36 for half a dozen large blue crabs this week.
