My son has been invited to like 6 grad parties—but he’s very excited about the restaurant.

HS grad parties weren’t a thing when I was growing up —more a family celebration.

I have offered to have one later this summer with his friends I’d he wants- but we have vacations and he has a lot of things going on.

This^^. We always do a nice restaurant dinner after graduation with family members, but have never hosted a graduation party for any of our kids. They usually wind up going to several of their friends parties, but most people don’t have them.

We held a backyard drop in party for each of our kids (family and friends), and they attended many of the same. I don't know of any families that did nothing

I’m sure they don’t all have graduation parties, but my high school junior has 11 graduation party invites for next weekend. So many students do have parties.

We had a family dinner and cake to celebrate, and saved any graduation party money for college tuition.

We offered our son the option, and he decided against it. We'll do a nice dinner to celebrate, and later this summer when our extended family is at my dad's beach house, I'll get a cake one night.

Depends on what you are asking.

Do most HS Seniors have some event to celebrate graduation? Yes
Do most HS Seniors (parents) host a large event with fellow students invited? No

Some do, which is nice. But if every graduating student hosted a large party it would become tedious and unmanageable.
A dinner out, or in, with family, is nice and common.

Nope. We’ll have lunch at our house after graduation for family members attending the ceremony. That’s it.

We had one, most of my kids friends had one. We had a 150 people and it was an 8 hour rager, good fun. We're doing destination with family and friends in Bermuda for undergrad, we'll do another big one when they graduate med school. Have the party.

We are having one, mainly because all our family is traveling from out of town for the graduation (an excuse to get together really - we expected our kid to graduate high school). We're doing a continental "brunch" with bagels, pastries, fruit, juice, coffee in the backyard. Not fancy and not expecting gifts. Maybe a third or half of the kids in our town are having them and there is no judgment either way.

Thanks a lot for the reply.
We’ll take her out to her favorite restaurant for a family celebration!

We did a family lunch for both kids with grandparents and a few aunts/uncles. Both kids went to a handful of grad parties but most of their friends didn't have them.

I’d guesstimate that about a quarter to a third of my dc’s friends are having parties.

We have done family ones.

The reasoning: If every kid had a graduation party with friends, they would be attending parties nonstop for weeks.

My HS senior is invited to her friend’s graduation party next week.

I feel guilty that we’re not planning a graduation party for her.

Is everyone having HS graduation party for their kid?
Is it also common not having one? I didn’t grow up in this country myself.
