I have zero experience with this microschool but just looked at the website. It is a hybrid and support for homeschool so the criticisms seem unfair. Parents are on the hook for the core curriculum for math & English. Seems like they have supplemental English, science, arts, field trips. Sounds great and if I were to homeschool, I'd def be interested in this hybrid program.

You said lower cost, so I assume you are not looking for any of the more established Christian privates (Rivendell, etc).

DP. If we lived closer to Tyndale, then we would look into it. Alas, we do not live or work anywhere near there.

Just across the line from N Arlington, there are two well-regarded Montessori schools in southern McLean. Both are on Kirby Rd. Brooksfield School is age 2 through K. Montessori School of McLean is age 2 through 6th grade. Class sizes are roughly similar.

There is another Montessori in N Arlington between Glebe Rd and Old Dominion Drive, north of Langston (US 29). I forget the name. Some say that this Montessori is more rigid than the other two I mentioned.

The main tip with any Montessori is that each school will be different, with large variance between schools. There is no Montessori trademark so any school can claim to be Montessori. So one needs to visit and see how that school actually is and determine whether there is a good fir for one’s DC.

There is River Farm coop in Alexandria. They use Singapore math and kids work at their own pace so maybe not what you are looking for. A micro school would not have enough kids to afford core teachers for different subjects, right? So maybe you need a full private school.

It’s a home school co-op. Not a full school. We passed.

Village school is a no go. They use khan academy for math. Not that khan is bad, but they don’t ‘teach’ a core subject, leaving kids without a real instructor. Not for us

Potomac Crescent Waldorf School in Alexandria is a lovely community and more reasonably priced. Great place for younger elementary years and lots of outdoor time.

Grace Episcopal in Alexandria is K-5 and a sweet, nurturing school. Several neighbors of ours send their kids and are very happy.

Montessori schools are nice and often more reasonably priced. There are a few different options in Arlington and Alexandria.

The Village School (now located in Arlington) may be another one worth exploring.

OP are you specifically looking for suggestions of micro schools, or just “good bang for your buck” schools in the area?

I don't know anything about it, but if you want a private Christian school another option is Tyndale Christian School being started up out of The Falls Church Anglican.

You said lower cost, so I assume you are not looking for any of the more established Christian privates (Rivendell, etc).

1. Anyone have any comments about this micro school, currently being run out of a church in Arlington?
2. Anyone know about similar programs, more affordable, low drama good quality elementary and middle schools in Arlington/Alexandria/Falls Church?
