I had a 4pm polyp removal and questioned my bil who is a MD and he said he saw someone choke to death while on his anathesia round so that made me decide to follow their rules.

I had a 2:30PM retrieval and was told no food after midnight and only small sips of water after that point.

Have you had narcotics before? I think the issue is the narcotics make you nauseous. If you've had narcotics before you would know how much you can risk it

Definitely if you're gonna have a sip, do it out of sight of the nurses!!!!!!!!!!!!!

From what I can tell, this is not evidence based. The American Association of Anesthesiologists guidelines are to stop water 2 hrs before a procedure, not 9.

It’s not and it’s silly. So many women are unfortunately willing to go along with things and won’t push back. No drinking water for 13 hours? But those are the rules!
