I’m actually annoyed that the friend invited the two extra families. DH thinks I’m not flexible. He thinks it was a grand old time. He had a great time with the guys drinking all night.

Like this. If you have celiac 100% supportive, but otherwise I’m not dealing with your disordered eating.

We own a beach house and have had one or two families stay with us at a time. We have a lot of fun. But nobody is drinking too much, husbands and wives share the cooking and cleaning, etc. We also didn’t do this with any little kids. This started when all kids were over the age of 10 so there weren’t any parenting issues. Maybe a little tween drama between two of the girls, but it was pretty mild.

Doing a beach house with siblings and their families this summer and bracing for it to be a disaster. Only going because it is a wish by a beloved parent who is in poor health. We can all get along in small doses, I fear a week together is going to fracture some relationships.

We do this once a year. The other 3 families are families where we spend a lot of time around each other. We know what to expect with everyone involved. I would never do it with people I didn't know well or that already annoyed me.

The two families I DO like both seem to be going through rough patches. Both husbands were drinking A LOT and both wives very obviously irritated. One couldn’t wake up to go to the beach because he was so hungover. Other was so drunk AT the beach that our friend looked like she was going to kill him and very openly was hating him.

Wasn’t there a post on here several years ago about one sign a couple will divorce is always needing to vacation with another family?

2 families we do know very well. Then one family is dh’s good friend whose wife I don’t care for and their friends who we are/were also kind of friends with.

Only travelled with one other fam at a time we knew well. I am a pain to travel with in many ways to pick my companions carefully. We have done beach/mountain travel with 3 other families so far and it worked out. But were friends for a couple years first and have spent long days together at each others houses before too.

We did get some great beach photos and group photos of both adults and children. I’m sure someone will be posting on social media, not me.

I don't do beach vacations with others. Not my jam

I always see these beach photos of huge groups of friends and family and it always looks like such a good time. We went to the beach with five other families and I came back really disliking two families. One family I barely knew but like previously. Another wife I always wasn’t a fan of and now actively dislike. Another family had a kid who was violent and hitting, tantruming and making parents miserable. All the couples seem to be fighting, wives mad at husbands for drinking too much.

I do think the kids had a great time.

The last time we went on a trip like this, my very good friend’s daughter was being mean to my child and it ended up escalating between the parents and my very good friend and I had a falling out over this. We technically made up but we don’t hang out the way we used to.

Are these beach vacations enjoyable for others?

While it wasn’t a huge deal, the eating together was also unnecessarily difficult with the gluten free healthy eating mom, early meal family, late dinner family, family who doesn’t pay, contribute, or clean.

I think I want to travel with just our family or with one family at a time.
