Op - I never had any video gaming systems growing up so I guess my opinion is skewed.
I think more my disdain is for people who are addicted to the detriment of other things. Like taking care of their kids, doing family outings, sleeping late in the mornings because they were up till 3am gaming. Obviously this is not the norm.

Playing video games is much more engaging for your brain than watching sports (the national pastime).
It's interesting how you've absorbed previous conventional thinking about which groups are "bad" and which groups are "normal", without applying any critical thinking whatsoever.

Playing on phones or tablets or laptops, watching movies or tv shows, doing puzzles - no different to me from playing video games.
As long as it is in moderation, any of these are fine with me for how someone likes to spend their downtime.

Do your kids spend every minute of every day with you? I play while my kids are asleep or at school or doing homework. I'm also too old to care what random people find "attractive." I do the things I find fun.

Yup. I would rather be married to “fun dad” than the judgmental guy with a stick up his ass, but that’s just me 🤷♀️

I have a husband who plays video games. I have no problems with it.
1. I am an introvert who needs a lot of alone time. It's nice to not have a needy man clinging to me all the time.
2. My husband uses this time to burn off steam from his very high-stress job. He is a lot happier when he interacts with our family because of it.
3. He still takes time to do his part to contribute to our family. Mostly he plays for a few hours after work and on weekends.
4. I would rather have a husband that plays video games than one who goes out with "the boys" every night and comes home trashed.
It works for me, I understand how it doesn't work for everyone.

I think it is bizarre too, OP. Do not get it. But I also do not understand the obsession with movies, binge watching tv, or listening to podcasts. I'd rather read a book or a newspaper/journal.

I’m a mom with two kids and I play video games with them sometimes. Not hours and hours, obviously, but my daughter and I play Just Dance together and we play MarioKart as a family sometimes too. It’s fun!
