BSC U9 is the same, every kid gets very close to 50% of play time (unless very extenuating circumstances)

Agree 100 percent

Ask the coach what the expectation is for your son. Ask if he's expected to play 1/2 a game. If your son isn't on the bottom team, ask if your son doesn't get as much playing time as other boys, is the club flexible to move him down a team which better matches his level.

Hoping you're not on a team where some boys are only playing a few minutes a half or not playing some halves.

At what age does it move to not practice by most to do 1/2 game? U13 or 13?

Unfortunately I've witnessed coaches giving very little playing time to players that young. I look at it as if the player isn't able to perform at the level you want them at, don't roster them to begin with. There is flexibility in rostering guest players on an as-needed basis that coaches shouldn't be stringing along players that they aren't willing to put on the field when it matters.

This is the way all clubs should operate. Unfortunately they don’t all do it this way .

This is coach specific. Some games they may play to win and others not. Some coaches divvy out field time equally and others don’t. Ask the coach.

Most clubs I've coached in have an unwritten policy that kids at this age will play at least half of each game.

Every kid should play close to half the game if not more. It's developmental soccer and I would not play for a club that benches kids at 7v7. Kids should also play numerous positions because, once again, it's developmental age.

On the top team and depending on the coach, guest players and subs sometimes only get 10 min per half.

Believe it or not, at u11, I’ve seen kids only get 5 min per game on the top teams some games.

I’ve even seen that at u9 and 10, albeit rarely and cutthroat clubs. However, I believe most or all guarantee 50% in league games and no guarantee in tourneys. Tourneys are where I’ve seen barely any PT even that young.

Kids need to play to develop and also for confidence. It doesn’t help an 8-year old to play 5 mins.

Hey everyone. New to the forum and have a son who will be going into his first season of travel this fall. For U9 from what you all have seen, how is playing time divided up? Have you seen that every kid at this age gets a fair shot/playing time? Or is it performance based (which I am ok with)? He will be playing at a smaller club so hopefully that helps.
