Front desk staffer at condo/apartment building, babysitting, delivery driver, restaurant hostess.
There's a company hiring drivers to deliver alcohol nearby SS. Seems like mostly to the same homes.
Last minute babysitting may be a good fit. She can get CPR/first aid training, get some toys and books and good to go.

Not to over-generalize or discriminate or be an a**hole or anything.

Can’t wait to see what kind of “old person” you will be after karma gets through with you!

It seems like it would be super easy. I see them at Publix/kroger, hobby lobby.

Thank you for the suggestions. The substitute teaching might be good for her to explore.

Big box stores may be an option, especially if she has some relevant knowledge (like a specific department at Lowe’s).

Does she have at least some college hours, if not a full degree? She can substitute teach.

No one is hiring a 60 year old mostly because they figure they will quit in a year, and the worry they will hurt themselves on the job and LAWSUIT.

Need anonymous work; like Uber, DoorDash, Rover. Babysitting is best bet, there being grandmotherly helps.

I mean ... there are almost countless jobs that pay $15-20 an hour and they vary a lot.

They just need to keep applying. But yeah, age discrimination is real.

Those you described are not full time. How much money does your friend need?

(Minimum wage varies greatly by state)

There is a lot of age discrimination out there OP. Elder and child care are probably the best best, but both are physically taxing.

Would that salary be considered low / minimum wage?

Those jobs look for young people without experience so that they can take advantage of them.

But if the 62 y/o tries hard enough and says she’s okay with a low salary when applying she’ll for sure find one

A friend says she is struggling trying to find a job. I feel like there are McJobs everywhere (dog walker, elder care, retail, odd jobs from list-serves, etc.), and you just have to show up, and grab them. But I haven't actively looked for a job in 25 years so I'm out of touch. Is it really that difficult to find something? She lives in Silver Spring, physically healthy, has a work history.
