Many thanks for suggestions, and if you got a great laptop not from Costco, please let me know the make and model.
The irony is that a 1k budget is about what a Macbook costs at Costco.![]()
Okay, yes, I did see that. But what is storage on those? I have never used a MacBook, so I'm not sure if I can just transition to it.

A few years ago I was looking for a specific feature (a DVD drive on the laptop - please don't make fun of me for needing this feature as that is not the point) and found one on the website that was exactly what I needed. I figured it would be faster to go to the store and get it. I called ahead and asked about the exact model number from the website and they confirmed it was in stock. I went to the store and found the item on display with that model number, almost bought it, but luckily noticed that the display item did not have the feature. I asked the sales guy and he said something about what's in store is not exactly the same as online (which is fine but it shouldn't be listed as the same model!) so I had to go home and order online anyway. Have never had problems with ordering online from them.

I’ve bought several laptops from Costco, they are a great retailer.
