They do know the difference (often because of older siblings) and they most definitely care about winning.

Because it's U9 and U10. The kids don't care about winning. NCSL knows that kids playing travel at that age is about the parents and not the kids. That age group is for delusional parents who think they are raising the next Messi or Ronaldo.

That is a dumb take.
9 year olds don't care about winning?

Jockeying for league or division or whatever is probably parents, but kids like to win.

I don't think you'll ever find a perfect list. Why does the ranking matter anyway? If the kid is developing, having fun, getting playing time, and if you care about it then getting into the tournaments you're interested in, you're in a good place.

We are U11 in the Spring time now. They do track the results internally at U9, U10 and Fall U11. The Fall U11 internal results setup the initial division placements for Spring U11. Then, the scores are published and division placement with promotion and demotion are carried forward.

However, the tech directors at the clubs usually try to keep the smaller/ middles sized clubs separate from the bigger more competitive 1st team clubs in NCSL so they don't have to play each other so everyone can feel good about their clubs.

Got soccer is absolutely worthless nowadays. Use the app people mentioned.

Got soccer is an antiquated formula that gives lots of points for winning a weak tourney they deem platinum or gold, mostly relics from a world years ago, and nothing from not winning a true premier tourney. So easy to game points and you’ll see a lot of truly elite teams laughably below local clubs who play local mediocre tourneys and get points.

Is then ranking listed on gotsoccer.com reliable? How do they do the calculation if the teams do not play in the same league? Any other place to look at?

deep in the recesses of your imagination
they mean absolutely nothing of consequence

Got soccer has more to do with the number of Tournaments you play in than anything else. There is a Soccer Ranking app that is fairly accurate for u13 and up. I wouldn't pay much attention to the rankings for u12 and below because a lot of scores aren't reported and at those ages a lot of final scores depend on the quality of the goalie and if the team has a full time goalie

There's an app you can download called Soccer Rankings that's a bit more complete. I forgot what more they include but it's a more accurate ranking than gotsoccer.
