I would spend the time in Sicily (or as someone suggested, maybe Capri or Ischia).

We went in mid-October a couple of years ago and it was very crowded. Our hotel said September/October is like what summer used to be and summer is just crazy.

Hard pass. Come back towards the end of September.

We just got back and stayed in an airbnb in Vetri Sul Mare, which is at the far end of the Amalfi Coast. It was amazing and so much less crowded and touristy than Positano or Sorrento.

Ischia isn’t as crowded, if you must go in August.

We went in mid June with kids last summer. Rome - Venice - Amalfi/Positano. It was crazy amount of people but still not claustrophobic although maybe Venice kinda was and not scorching heat by any means.

I would never ever go after June. Sorry, just being honest. I think June works in a lot of places incl Asia even though not ideal but into July is chaos.

But that's everywhere - we did Jackson Hole in Aug and OMG. We couldn't hike till dusk/sunset it was so crowded!!!!!

I think you should go but really manage your expectations and also try to stay off the beaten path. I didn't even know we were at Trevi in Rome as people covered it up there were so many!!

I think the weather will continue to be horrible in summer and crowds will continue even yr round so see it now if you have a chance as it'll be worse in future years

It may be the “worst” time to go, but still 1000X better than not going.

As Yogi said, “Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded”.

Go, deal and enjoy!

The first time we went in May and it was delightful. Went last year in late June and it was miserable. So hot, so crowded, and not worth it. And Amalfi is one of my favorite parts of Italy.

I wouldn’t go on a free trip there in August. It will be hot and jammed.

Finalizing our summer trip plans to Italy. Originally, we were not going to go out of our way to visit the Amalfi Coast, but we’ve been reconsidering visiting for a few nights. Flying into Naples and mostly focused on Calabria and Sicily. Concerns include crowds in summer - but willing to fit it in if it’s worth it! For what’s it’s worth we’ve been to Positano 20+ years ago in winter months…thoughts on the Amalfi Coast in summer? Thank you!!!
