If you got a lot thermos would chicken nuggets fill him up? Mine takes the bare chicken bites ( for times like these. very similar to chick fila). You can get a huge bag at Costco.

We sit and eat properly before he goes, but after a couple hours in the pool, he wants more.

I would back peanut butter oatmeal cookies without all the sugar. Small ones you can just pop in your mouth.

Nothing will be great having sat in a bag for the commute to and the couple hours of swim. So, cold pizza folded in half and the other wrap suggestions seem best. I'd probably focus on a nicer first dinner and caloric snacks for the ride home (nuts, cheese, dried fruit, homemade calorie dense granola bars).

Too bad it's just a long commute, that's a challenge.

Tortilla wraps are the easiest to stuff with your choice - chicken, guacamole and cheese is our go to. Empanadas, onigiri, pasties, samosas - pretty much every cuisine has a form of hot pocket. We also do protein shakes. And don’t dismiss just packing a loaf of bread to fill in the cracks.

We do chicken avo burritos wrapped in foil, beef quesadillas, spaghetti bolognese in a thermos, lasagne/chicken parm, chicken tenders, burgers, and some others that might be considered messier….

assuming the other mom is on board with it...
hearty sandwiches
smoothies (incl protein, carbs, even veggies) or shakes (if you're mostly about calories)
fruit and nuts
lunchable-type meal - cheese, crackers, hummus, veggie, jerky or salami
frittata, can be cold

I know some kids who can make a huge mess with just a string cheese or a lara bar and others who could probably eat a thermos of chilli and triscuits with a hard boiled egg without a single splatter or crumb, so know your kid.

My 13 year old son eats a second dinner each night on the way home from practice. He's got 2 hours of swimming followed by an hour ride home, and he could eat a horse if I sent one.

Half the time he's in his carpool buddy's mom's car, so I want something that won't make a mess.

I don't mind cooking. What are some delicious, not messy, healthy foods with a bajillion calories?
