OP here. This is where I am. I have worked from home since Covid and am so ready to have them in school and have a quiet house. People talk about the sick days, but the truth is they're still disruptive -- I have to take off work to take them to the doctor, and when they don't feel good they want mom anyway. I'm really sad because I love her, they love her and I know she loves them and it will be difficult for her, but at the same time I'm ready for the next chapter. Just not sure I 100% know what I'm in for....

sigh..wish we were but have a child with SN. Maybe will report back after high school.

As a kid after we had a nanny in my house our old nanny came over for dinner sometimes (she was local) and a nanny who had moved away kept in touch. It was like having loose extended family in some cases and a nice benefit. Otherwise, things went on and we were fine.

We are letting my nanny go now that my youngest is starting K. We will continue to have a weekly cleaner and Mother’s helpers a couple of days a week.

Both DH and I have flexible jobs and I work from home. We might do some after care at school another day. I am worried, but we can’t justify the expense anymore. We kept her this past year with all the kids in school FT and we were paying her 8 hours/day for working 3 hours.

We kept ours. She helps with driving and keeping the house running smoothly.

Minor illnesses became more disruptive.

More meal prep and laundry, and more logistics to work out in the before/after school hours.

We have always had two birthday parties for our kids - one for friends, and one for family (more of a dinner party). Once the nanny left we invited her to the family birthday dinners for the kids.

We had the same nanny for about 8 years. It was sad when that finished and the kids missed her but life went on.

...what was the transition like? We have had a full time nanny for six years and are finally at the point where our kids are in school full time and we no longer have a need for a nanny.

For others who have been here before, what did the transition feel like after so long? Any learnings or surprises? Just curious.
