He will need to take it in algebra for verified credit, you might be able to opt of this year depending on current performance but it could be good practice.

How has his grades been in pre-algebra?

I didn't want my son to take the math SOL because he tends to stress out about it and would love not to take it. But he's in pre-algebra now and obviously he should be in algebra next year. This is APS.
