Would a school like UMD rescind admission if the student was suspended during the last week of high school?

The Cs are OK. The D, less so. Usually if a school does anything, it will be a warning letter or starting college on "academic probation" -- a rescind is usually only due to discipline issue or complete destruction of GPA. I would have him talk to his teacher and see how he can pull the D into the C territory just to make the whole thing more of a non-issue.

My kid contracted senioritis immediately after getting into his preferred selective in-state flagship. It makes me furious. His grades slipped because he stopped trying in his hardest class and isn't doing the pointless graded busywork in others.

He looked up the rescind policy and is unafraid because of it.

This better not happen in college on my dime but really I'm powerless beyond fairly empty threats.

I feel like this is his first teenage rebellion.

"bad case of senioritis" allows him to be a victim and avoid accountability. He made choices and there might be consequences. He needs to own it and be worried about it more than you are.

You should direct this question to your son’s high school college counselor…

Can he get that D up to a C? Two Cs is fine. Not sure about the D though.

OP do they ask to see final grades or just Fall grades?

Every school has a rescind policy. Find that and see what it says. My DS has had at least one C every year of high school and is in at a school comparable to UMD leading me to believe that Cs don't matter as much as we think. I don't think one D will break the boat either.

Is the D a failing grade in his high school?

My kid, last year in MCPS, had a breakdown in the second semester. He went from straight As everywhere to a D in AP Calc and a C in AP Lit. His counselor warned him that failing a course might create problems, and he managed to claw his way back up to a C and a B respectively in those courses. The university didn't say a word.

I think at most your kid's university will ask for an explanation of that D.

C's get degrees and D stands for diploma.
