Mayorga. My Costco usually carries both the medium and dark roasts.

I like Zeke's Royal Blue. It's local - DC/Baltimore. Mayorga is also good.

This is the most equivalent to Starbucks. I think they also way over roast their beans.

Because they have the same coffee roasting method.
Peet’s coffee used to supply to Starbucks before they started roasting with the same method of Peet’s.

I haven’t tried to buy it in a while, so I don’t know if it’s still around, but Starbucks’ Gold Coast is so good. Probably my favorite.

If you've been drinking Starbucks, then anything from the grocery store will be fine for you. If you'd like to drink actual good coffee, then shop local, and buy Mayorga. They used to be in Rockville, now outside Baltimore. Also Compass Coffee is local. Outside of the area, I love Intelligentsia out of Chicago and Counter Culture out of RTC.

19:12 here. Thanks, 10:52, good inputs. I didn't know that about the roast dates!

Just wanted to jump back in here and say Blanchard's decaf is the best decaf I've ever had. (Although I haven't tried that many specialty decafs.)

Aaah, 10:52 here again. OP - what kind of grinder are you using?

Had not heard of Orinoco but they also appear to be local. (Ref: 19:12's comment)
Worth a shot.
Dark roasts will age faster than light roasts so you're going to want to find something with a roast date essentially as recent as possible.
While unlikely you'll find it, under 24 hours is probably too "young." But most dark roasts will have "peaked" by two weeks from roast date.
Light roasts take a bit longer to mature, so you'd be looking for something at least 7 days, and ideally 10-21 days from roast date... peaking around two weeks.

Although you can "pause" aging by putting your bags in the deep freeze. You don't want to take coffee in and out of the freezer repeatedly, but if you find something you like and buy several bags of it, you can store them in the back/bottom of the freezer until you're ready to open and then let them thaw (so, take them out the evening prior.)

We love Blanchard's. Support your local roasters! They are in Richmond.

Dark as Dark would probably be up your alley.

Else in Springfield you can find Cervantes coffee. Good but I like Blanchard's better.
