Good luggage is maybe the one thing I think ls worth upgrading for so it performs better and doesn’t break. Huge difference between dragging 1970s roller skate wheel luggage and a bag with smooth wheels that go 360 degrees. And unlike anything else I buy my kid, he’s not going to lose or break his own suitcase. (The airline will pay if they lose it.)

We buy all our luggage from TJ Maxx. I definitely see people with better, higher quality luggage. We bought everyone rollons in 2016 for a big international trip where we checked baggage and we're all still using the same luggage - a lot of driving trips, so they do get wear and tear from being stacked on top of each other. Have also flown (and checked them). We're not heavy flyers, and given the covid years of no travel maybe we've gotten more years of use than expected. I've started traveling for work again and I definitely want something just a little sturdier - the wheels aren't as smooth as they once were and it can be awkward getting on and off escalators/moving walkways. But I'm also probably fine another couple of trips.
good suitcases at Marshalls and TJMaxx are still pretty pricey, waay more than $50.

Do those measurements include the wheels? If you're going to Europe the max length is 22" and that bag is already longer than that - 22.4"

Years ago when I was a poor student I paid $50 for my first bag, it lasted one trip. Then I paid $150 for my next one and it lasted 10 + years. At the end the I paid less per trip with the good one.
I had an expensive bag that the baggage handlers managed to wreck on the first trip by dragging it across the tarmac, zippers down. I had a bag that made it around the world just fine then got damaged by baggage handlers on a thirty minute flight.
I've had cheap ones goes on for ages. It depends how they are treated by handlers.

Take a look at it. My kids' carry-ons are from Target. They might have cost a little more but not by too much. They're still going strong about 5 trips later.

I wouldn't. I doubt this will last very long. With the amount of times you will have to replace it it won't be worth it.

For carryon, to use for 1-2 trips per year, it would be fine for a while. It will only get cracked if its checked (and that still will take a few trips)
