Lab diamonds are real diamonds. You can tell a stone is a moissanite b/c it sparkles too much, it has rainbow sparkles. I actually love the moissanite eternity band that I have far more than the diamond band I lost.

It's definitely this (just look at social media in general) plus access to better looking fake options.

That’s bc they ARE real. Lab grown diamonds are real flawless diamonds. It’s not like cubic zirconia.

They will become what cultured pearls are to natural pearls—ubiquitous.

I wish they'd come up with a better version pearl that doesn't involve oysters. Poor things.

I’d love a pair of lab studs.

We are seeing that diamonds and gemstones are disappearing as the marker of expensive jewelry due to the wide availability of affordable lab stones. What makes a piece of jewelry expensive will shift to craftsmanship and weight of precious metal. A big diamond ring will be cheap, a big thick gold one will not. A thick gold ring with elaborate milgrain? Expensive.

NO Moissante and Lab are not even close to the same thing. No one was rushing out to buy moissanite for an engagement ring.

Lab = Natural diamond.

And Milgrain yuck... Not expensive means lower end jewelry. Ie can not afford the jewels.

Dp, but moissanite is definitely popular! I think lab has taken over now, but basically 3-10 years ago moissanite was "the" fake engagement ring. Several bigger brand jewellery sellers picked it up, custom cut them, and still charged a premium, but much less than their diamonds.

I'm not a fan of milgrain but it does not mean lower end jewellery. It's a preference. But overall it doesn't sound like you are as knowledgeable as you think you are. It's also not nice to yuck someone elses yum.

Oh definitely.

I think SM and whatnot is a major driver, but with all the fake types (moissanite, cz) and lab grown diamonds, now people can "afford" a 3ct look without it maybe looking too fake.

Gotta keep up with those Jones'
