Rich American families seem to follow a pretty predictable pattern:

First generation is scrappy, driven, smart, sometimes dishonest, often immigrant, buys a place in American high society but never fully accepted

Second generation goes to all the right schools, much more accepted in society and polished, solidifies family business and standing

Third generation goes to all the right schools, maybe nominally runs family business but spends most of time on charity or artistic type stuff or things like dressage. Less concerned about their kids “making it” or proving the family name

Fourth generation goes to the fancy private k-12 but maybe not fancy college, never has a real job, pisses away family legacy or is full on wacky. (Most extreme example is DuPont).

There’s some wiggle around the edges and some families skip a step but that seems like a pretty common pattern. It’s like capitalism has a built in brake on building an aristocracy.

He’s a rich kid living a rich kid life.

My brother is untreated for likely bipolar and seems like this when manic. Posts a lot of bs. He actually supports rfk jr and believes the same conspiracy theories. He is highly educated and we are a good family too. It can happen in any family. Luckily my brother is somewhat better now having found love with someone more than 20 years younger. Ugh.

My 17 year old is more mature as it relates to social media.

I find his videos funny but if I was Caroline I might be annoyed my son was doing this at his age. Her daughters seem to be employed and living normal lives.

Maybe it’s because I have teen daughters, but those types of TikTok videos don’t scream unhinged to me.

It does scream a bit of arrested development to me. It does scream wealthy kid who can stay in an adolescent state far longer than normal.

He’s 31. Time to grow up.
