At some point she will not be able to fulfill her duties, nor should she, since she will need to rest and take care of herself and her baby.

I would push her to contact her family. I would provide emotional support for what is obviously a very trying time for her. This young woman needs mothering.

But I would also confer with the agency, because she cannot be a good mother to a newborn AND take care of other children.

Either she returns home while she can still travel, or she has the baby here (with what money?!) and returns home when the newborn is fit to endure the germs on airport and flight. But honestly the second solution sounds like you might have to shell out some money, unless her family can help her...

Why? I'm not aware of a visa condition that the visa gets cancelled when the person gets pregnant.

There are visa requirements of the program that must be met like attending classes and meetings. There is no "maternity leave" allowed for not meeting those requirements.

Pregnant women in most states in the United States are eligible for medicaid as long as their income isn't too high. You should help her enrolls so she can get prenatal care. What state are you in and what is her income?

Foreigners and undocumented people are not eligible for obvious reasons.

Your au pair agency will have clear guidelines about this.

Nope, time to send her home. We don't need more anchor babies. But, also, who is the Father. Might be a half sib on the way!

I’d ask her to get a paternity test if she’s staying in your home.

It is 2024. Decent human beings do not consider firing women because they are pregnant.

Our au pair has recently found out she is pregnant. She wishes to carry the baby to term and would like to stay in the au pair program if possible. Does anyone know the rules regarding pregnancy during the au pair program? We can't find any clear stipulations in her contract or the State Department website.
