I thought Indiana did away with bed rush and uses RFM/quota now?

They will flatter you and schmooze you and then not keep you until the next round. Happens all the time.

OP here. Hasn't happened yet but worrying ahead of time because rush happens quickly and over summer. Seems a very stressful start to school. Didn't think it all through.

sororities usually have a plan to accept all the girls, as long as they meet requirements (grades, recs etc.) and only if the girl maximizes her options at every opportunity. if girl gets invited back to A, B and Z sorority and girl likes A and B but does not like Z and refuses their invitation, then all bets are off and girl may get dropped.

there is NO guarantee that a girl will get in to the specific sorority that she hopes for.

even at very competitive greek schools there are sororities that take out of town girls.

sorority was good for my kid because she got a LOT of leadership experience and a full resume, other than that, i don't really care too much about sororities.

I've heard the same about Indiana. I've even heard that some kids who love it there first semester want to transfer after they do not get a bid because they are so surprised and disappointed.

I do think that girls make a connection, but I just assume that there is not enough space for all of the amazing girls. It can be such a blow if that is something you've envisioned for yourself as part of the college experience.

Indiana was one of my DD's top choices and this was a conversation point. At first, I thought it was ridiculous to even include it on her list of pros and cons, but after we got talking, I realized how important it was to her to be in a sorority and how not making one would really be hard for her. It was not her top reason for choosing a different school, but it was on her list.

That said, for OP, I am assuming this happened at the beginning of the year or semester? Is your DD still interested in joining a sorority? Depending on the school, if your DD continues to have good relationships with the girls, she should discuss whether she should rush again. Girld in the house can definitely pull for her if she is still interested. Though I wouldn't be surprised if the experience turned her away from Greek life. But please know that just because she sis not get a bid, it does not mean that her connections were not real.

I don't think it's a south thing. Wisconsin has a few Jewish/East coast ones and then a bunch are mostly for local/chicago or in-state. Just as an example. Similar at Indiana per PP

My cousin's kid got blackballed. She was a triple legacy at one sorority and didn't get it and the other sororities blackballed her too. Apparently the girls from her hometown at the various sororities didn't like her and blackballed her everywhere.

I get the feeling she's the mean popular girl type. She also has brothers rather than sisters and is the adored girl in the family so she's probably a pick me type.

I heard same about Indiana! But I do love that it's spring rush.

I heard that happens often at Indiana- though I don't know how to quantify often. My dd will be a freshman there next year and that is something that has come up. Luckily rush is not until second semester, but I do worry about how that scenario could impact her freshman experience.

So based on my extremely limited heresay, I'd say it happens frequently.
