This is a good list. Thank you...

I had brought up NYU for ED. I also mentioned he look into UMD and AU and he guffawed like I had insulted him. I hope his college counselor gives him more hard truths in the Fall so he hears it from someone else.

Trouble is what mine will be getting in if they don't bring home at least a 3.8

ED/ED2would be required for this kid.

This.
Not at our private.

3.8 though and you can….

Agree with this. 3.8 is pretty much the outer reaches of the top20 at our Big3 school.

Athletes can go down to a 3.6.

That's what I thought, but he claims I dont know anything since "things are different now." I was hoping his college counselor would talk some sense into him but they just told him to make sure he has a backup option.

OP here. Unweighted, Private and plays two sports, but only one at a high level/year round.

Weighted or unweighted? Private or public?

Absolutely! Is he an amazing athlete? National level ECs? Exceptional recommendations and LORs? There is so much more to an application outside of GPA, but a 3.6 is going to need really strong extras to gain admission to a T50 school.

DC has a 3.6 and very high aspirations. I think he needs to look at Top 50 as his reaches but I'm told I don't know what I'm talking about. So just checking here out of curiosity to see if I'm really that off base. Can he get into a Top 20 with a 3.6?
