Sorry, I didn't mean to laugh in a mean way. I'm a mother and when my kids were little this is the sort of stuff my ex did. After a few years, I decided I wasn't going to depend on him anymore; I learned to just explicitly say what I wanted/expected out of the day. And my dad was definitely like this. He also went jewelry shopping on Christmas Eve every year for my mother. My mother didn't even care for jewelry that much.

I have definitely btdt with ridiculous mothers day shenanigans. If you teach them now, there is hope; I have two boys that are college-age now. They already know that all I want is someone to cook me either dinner or lunch. They always get me a gift and card too, but I wouldnt care if they didn't; as long as I get my meal I'm good.

I’m sorry, OP. Husbands aren’t great at this. Fortunately, preschool, kindergarten, and first grade teachers usually are. I hope you get something adorable from your kids!!

I was going to suggest some alternatives for him to do (so you don't end up cooking and cleaning up) but it really is true that dining out is less than pleasant these days. But anyways, have a good (miserable) life. Glad I'm not you! Glad my husband is not napping I guess. Though I wouldn't care.

Everyone just lower or eliminate your expectations right now and everything will be fine.

I don't see what's wrong with that either? All you have to do is make the reservation.

I don't get what's wrong with that. I'd start thinking of a few of my favorite restaurants and pick one while he naps. The only thing that might make me mad is if he didn't bother lining up a babysitter. I might have to wake him up for that.

DH asked what I wanted for Mother’s Day: I know it’s so basic but I want to go to brunch. This was on Thursday. Everyone knows that brunch books out 4-6 weeks before Mother’s Day. He googled and sheepishly said “everyone’s booked.”

My husband 5 minutes ago: "I was thinking that in order to avoid the Mother's Day crowds, we should go out to dinner tonight, wherever you want to go" and then walks upstairs to take a nap. IT IS SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND YOU ARE ASKING ME TO PLAN MY OWN MOTHER'S DAY DINNER FOR THIS EVENING? I want to cry.
