We really like the counterdepth LG, it has the most space of any counter depth we could find that fit in our space (there was also a Kitchenaid that we really wanted but it was too tall). You have to make sure you buy one that has the traditional compressor (inverter) as opposed to the one they made that constantly fails (linear). We have the 26 cu. ft. Smart InstaView® Counter-Depth MAX™ French Door Refrigerator. If you read the reviews, people have the dumbest complaints (the door beeps too quickly, the toggle for ice vs water is annoying, etc.). We also bought ours from Costco which has a great return policy/warranty support.

Anyone have a Bosch they like that doesn't have an ice maker/ water line? Wondering whether we should find one without given all the issues

GE has been reliable. I do have to clean the coils every 2 years. But it’s a good counter depth fridge.

Avoid Samsung like the plague.

We have a Samsung and it broke within a month, so that our water dispenser wouldn't stop dispensing. Luckily it was a weekend and we were home to turn off the water. It was fixed and four years later I haven't had any issues. I definitely turn off the water supply every time we go out of town.

We have LG counter depth, french door. This particular model has the special door on the right to hold drinks, that you can access without opening up the fridge and the fridge can make craft ice. We have never had any issues with this fridge for the 3 years of having it. So confused why LG has a bad rap.

We have subzero in one house and an LG in the other. Both are good. We did get the icemaker/water dispenser in the LG and it's very handy, especially the crashed ice feature.

The subzero is truly counter depth so you do lose a little space unless you can go wide. Most other counter depth fridges stick out a little bit.

it's very quiet, another requirement of mine.

We have a GE fridge and it's been great. Had it 3 years. No issues.

I’m surprised wirecutter recommended the LG. Just read through the comments to see how many issues people have had. We have had counter depth sub zeros in 3 different houses, each was at least 8-10 years old by the time we moved in, and I only remember calling a technician once. We are remodeling and will replace our 20 year old subzero with another one. None of them had the exterior water/ice dispenser and I was told that those dispensers account for 80% of service calls for any fridge, so we avoided it in the new fridge.

Wirecutter loves LG. Are they the best option? Would prefer something without handles. Samsung has a nice option, but reviews are spotty. Willing to look at high end to low end - sweet spot between durable and attractive. Want freezer on side or bottom, don't care about whether it has french doors, one door or two long doors. Zero opinions about icemaker, can do it with or without.

Current fridge is from the 1980s and has 15 cubic square feet of space. This about of space, or maybe a tiny but more for us is perfect.
