Online therapy has helped for my teenager.
They went to Choice Clinical Services in College Park before they started working with a LCSW in private practice.

One of the big benefits of tele-health is that they can take the appointment during school hours in their school counselors office rather than have to be picked up early etc and miss a lot of instructional time.
My DCs appointment is scheduled over their lunch period so they only miss 30 min of class rather than 2 hours +

If you can try a hybrid approach, that may be the best thing. My daughter is in college so she sees her therapist in person when she is home for the summer or on breaks, but online when she is at school. I think the in-person visits - especially when she was just starting with this therapist - were essential to developing a relationship with the therapist.

I think almost all therapists are doing virtual appointments these days so if you can find someone your child likes, they can probably move to online eventually.

We do counseling at Active and Connected Family Therapy and DS likes it so far. We only do virtual on the rare occasion we can't make it in, as they don't really recommend virtual for kids/teens.

I recommend at least hybrid and avoiding the corporate Better help type. We have finally found a lovely therapist in Falls Church— and was able to get in on the quicker end by taking a daytime spot during kid’s free period and then transition a few months in to an after school spot. Therapist will only see kids online if they come in person at least once a month, and they have to always start first month in person.

Nope, tried with several different therapists and wasted thousands. It might work for some kids but our own experience was terrible.

Do not do virtual therapy. It’s been documented as terrible, esp for teens.

They’ve been thru enough with Covid. You need human connection for trust and opening up.

Where are you located? If VA, Fairfax Counseling on Main Street offers this and we've found them super helpful and accommodating.

Does anyone have any recommendations for online therapy for a teenager with anxiety and depression struggles? Prefer if they take insurance. Thank you!
