The last time I had a free afternoon I did a hop on/hop off tour. But I had not been to this city before, so it was a great overview of the entire city and really easy to be solo.

I’d walk the public gardens, through beacon hill and back bay. If time, I’d grab an Uber and spend an hour or so at the Isabella Gartner museum

Walk. Everywhere. Such a nice city to walk. Start at Boston common. Walk through public garden. Walk around Back bay and beacon hill and then Take the redline over to Cambridge and Harvard square and the neighborhoods around there.

Tatte is a mediocre chain that we have in the DC area. I would not go there.


A step above mediocre but agreed not worth going out of the way for. Flour Bakery would be my go to in Boston.

Walk around Newbury Street/Back Bay/Public Garden. There is a modern art museum in Seaport if that's your thing. You can also check out North End (old Italian neighborhood). Or Chinatown, which still has Chinese presence (unlike DC). Boston is very walkable.

Brookline has JFK's childhood home and good lunch places.

Beacon Hill has some amazing homes.

Cambridge has Harvard and MIT campuses. Each has architecturally notable buildings.

If you want to hit a museum, the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum is very nice

What sorts of things would interest you most? Personally at this time of year I would probably do a long walk through a few neighborhoods. Weather is probably perfect for it.

Start on edge of public garden, go through the Common, across Beacon Hill, along the Charles for a bit, then across downtown into the North End and eat there
