This.
My parents are both staunchly Republican, as were both sets of grandparents. But they are old-school Republicans who cant seem to accept how the party has changed, and so they still stubbornly vote Republican, because it is what they've always done. My dad fell down the FoxNews rabbit hole and believes everything they say. My mom can't stand Trump and was shocked by the overturning of Roe, so I'm not sure what she's going to do in the upcoming election. She adamantly refuses to vote for a Democrat, though.
I was raised as a Republican...but I was also raised to not be a bigot, to believe in my full rights and abilities as a woman, and to stand up for those in need. Needless to say, I no longer vote for Republican candidates.
I have a hard time reconciling my parents as their beliefs are now with the how those same parents raised me. It is like a switch flipped in them after retirement.
