Subject: Probiotics for perimenopause weight gain/gut health/appetite suppressant
I just saw a documentary on Netflix that is really interesting and it is all about gut health. The animation is so good that the film is almost worth watching just for that. One of my takeaways from it was that the good biotics in our gut are best replaced by eating a variety of fruits and vegetables, not buy supplements. The probiotics you can buy in the store are usually harvested from old cheese, and even though there are millions (or billions?) of strains in the supplement, they represent a tiny fraction of the biotics you might have in your body and could represent 0% of the biotics you need to be adding.
The documentary is Hack Your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut, and it is on Netflix right now.

It is known that your microbiome affects your weight and your mental health. I think we are still years away from being able to get tested and actual recommendations on how to fix it, though.

Spend your money on some nice new clothes or something else, because no, none of those things being advertised are going to curb your hunger and cravings.

Just eat some home made yoghurt. It's incredibly easy to make.

The weight loss people I listen to who focus on perimenopause/menopause women emphasize fiber, fat, and protein in snacks and meals for long term weight maintenance and weight loss.
I wouldn’t do supplements but everyone is different.

My social feed seems to be full of probiotics and supplements that claim to regulate gut health and naturally balance hormones, increase GLP-1, boost metabolism, make you less hungry, etc. there seem to be so many companies from Hum to Pendulum to Seed.
I am 46 and definitely have gained some weight over the past few years I can’t seem to get rid of. I don’t expect a magic pill to make me drop 10 lbs overnight, but I would love to find something that helps with hunger and cravings if it exists. I just need to eat less and stop thinking about food 24/7.
Has anyone tried one of these types of supplements and what did you think?
