People fly to Mexico to do just this all the time. There might be a beach there to look at, but not many of them are swimming...

DH and my teens love hotel pools. This is with having a pool of our own. So if your family likes it, it would be a blast.

Sounds great! I do something similar. It's nice to get away, even if just for a weekend.

You seem seriously boring. How is hanging out at a resort by the pool a waste? It’s called ‘vacation’.

NP, but most resort pools don't have lifeguards, and making sure my kids don't drown isn't exactly relaxing.

Weird safety theater that you apparently zone out completely when some teenaged kid is “watching” your kid and everyone else’s kid.

Where did I say I zone out? But yes, I'll skim a book. No lifeguard = no book. Or phone. Or cocktail. Or anything else.

Ha my kids beg to go back to random holiday inn along I-95 because it had a pancake machine and a waffle maker, and what could be better than that?! We had a blast at that breakfast and will always remember it.

Go for it!

Yes, we do this on random weekends during the summer when we don't have plans - a night or two at Hyatt Chesapeake Bay. Nice to have a different environment, get crabs at Ocean Odyssey, etc.

Have gone to Tides Inn too though that is farther. Nice to relax and try out a new restaurant or two.

We go to hotels just to use the pool all the time. Sounds fun.

How old are your kids? Mine would like this because any new place is still pretty fun for them. They are elementary aged. Younger would be great too. I can't speak to if middle schoolers and above would like this.

I found a hotel/resort in a nature-y destination with a really nice outdoor pool. It’s sort of in the middle of nowhere because of this but has on-site restaurants. I’m thinking we will take a drive there this summer for a long weekend just so we can relax with nowhere to go and let the kids use the pool. If it rains we can easily cancel. If you’ve done this, was it fun? Or was everyone bored quickly? I’m assuming we will break up the day, if we want, by going on some hikes or seeing some sights, but the main objective is just to relax at a resort pool, order food and drinks, etc.
