Two exams are factored into 2nd semester grades, MISA and MCAP Gov.

Subject: Whitman evacuated due to smoke -- MISA test postponed
From the principal:
Dear Walt Whitman High School Families and Community Members,
At approximately 10:35 am, smoke was detected on the second floor of our building. Students and staff were immediately evacuated and the fire department was called. Students and staff remained outside until the fire department evaluated the situation and allowed us to re-enter the building safely. Fans were used to disperse the smoke, however some odors may remain.
The cause of the smoke was a malfunctioning HVAC unit. It has now been disconnected and MCPS maintenance will repair it. We are currently changing some locations of classes for the remainder of the day. MCAP testing has been postponed and we will provide information about when we will be retesting. The AP exams (Microeconomics and Human Geography) will continue and the AP Statistics exam will occur this afternoon as scheduled.
We deeply appreciate the rapid response of our emergency partners as well as how quickly our students and staff responded to this incident. Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Subject: Whitman evacuated due to smoke -- MISA test postponed
Whitman was evacuated this morning and the fire department called after a staffer noticed smoke on the second floor. Turns out it was a malfunctioning HVAC unit.
They ultimately brought the kids back in the building, but they are postponing the MISA (science) test that students were supposed to take today -- and probably were taking when the school was evacuated.
No details provided other than that.
Do you think they will have to throw out the MISA test the kids began taking today? I don't see how they can keep it without the risk that kids go home and research answers to the questions they saw.
So disappointing, as my DC was looking forward to getting this over with.
